kadilo
DETAILS
Кадило — from the Russian, "thurible".
Warm wood, darkened by the years. Old icons, worn gold, beeswax melting slowly and incense smoke gathering beneath the altar.
Outside, the cold air smells of pine and juniper. Inside, the smoke mixes with the wood, the wax and the burnt resins. Hanging among the candles, the clothes and the hair.
Kadilo smells like the blanket of smoke wrapping around you. Little by little the cold disappears and the incense feels almost physical: warm, dense, enveloping.
It smells like that strange moment when the smoke seems to protect you, as if there were something sacred inside it.
